AKANE YANG: My name is Akane Yang. And you can call me a Akane. I'm originally from China. My hometown is Shanghai, but I have been living in Japan for about 20 years. My current job title is assistant manager of HR division in Nissin Foods Holdings.

Does having good English-communication skills matter in your curent job?

It's very important in my job, because I'm the leader of a global HR team and the responsibility for connecting all the HR manager all over the world. There are more than 35 Nissin's subsidiaries in 17 countries and areas. Our common language is English. So high English communication skills is necessary for us. We exchange mail in English, and we have meetings in English. So everybody needs to use English.

Why did you choose the TOEIC tests to assess your English language communication skills?

TOEIC is well known not only in Japan, but also in the world. And also, it is recognized and reliable certification. I could demonstrate my English skills to all the employers all over the world. And the second reason is because TOEIC tests are including listening, reading, writing, and speaking. I think it is a very effective way to assess someone's overall English skills.

Do you think candidates with TOEIC test scores have an advantage when applying for a job that requires business English-communication skills?

I think it will be a very big advantage, because TOEIC test score very popular and very common for us to evaluate someone's English communication skills. And now Nissin is expanding its overseas business, it's very urgent for us to recruit or to cultivate the global talent in Nissin. And there were a lot of definitions of global talents or global leaders, but I think the initial and the most important one is the high English communication skills.

What's your best advice for those preparing for the TOEIC tests?

I think the basic and the best principle is to listen more, read more, write more, speak more in English in your daily life. So the English life environment is very important.
